Census Metrics for pet owners: register your dog or cat from your phone

What Census Metrics offers people who live with a dog or a cat: digital registration, ID card with QR, area lost-pet alerts, veterinary record, campaigns and short courses.

This page is for people who share their life with a dog or a cat and want to do the census paperwork without queues, with a few useful extras for everyday life.

What it solves for you

Updating the census usually means going to a counter during office hours. Here the procedure is done from your phone or computer, and the platform adds a proof document, alerts if your animal goes missing and reminders of what you need to do.

What you can do

Register your animal. From your phone, with no queues. You can also start with a QR code from your clinic, a shop or a poster.

Carry its ID card on your phone. A document that vouches for your animal and is checked with a QR code. Always with you.

Raise the alarm if it goes missing. The alert reaches people in the area, who can reply with a sighting.

See its veterinary record. The history your clinic notes, and when the next appointment is due.

Sign up for campaigns. Vaccination, sterilisation, adoption or municipal events, from the app.

Contact the local government. The department’s contact details and a channel for sending incidents.

Learn and save. Short courses on responsible ownership and benefits from participating shops and clinics.

Your first registration, step by step

  1. Have the microchip to hand and a photo.
  2. Start the registration from your phone or with a QR code.
  3. Fill in your animal's details.
  4. Wait for validation by the local government.
  5. Save the ID card on your phone.

And if something happens

  • Your animal goes missing. You alert people in the area.
  • You find an animal. You can report it even if you do not know its family.
  • A campaign comes up. You sign up from the app.
  • You have a question or an incident. You send it to the right department.

What an ordinary day looks like

You see a poster with a QR code at the clinic and start the registration while you wait. When the local government validates it, you receive your census number. Later, the app reminds you of the next vaccination and you show the ID card instead of looking for a paper.

Your data

Each person sees only their own. Maps never show the exact address and you decide which part of the veterinary record is shared with the local government.

Who you will meet

Your clinic has its space on the veterinary clinics page, and municipal staff theirs, on the local governments page. If you run a shop and want to offer a benefit, see the local partners page.

Census Metrics is part of the Zoometrics suite, with Meow Metrics, Ark Metrics, Wild Metrics and Silva Metrics (new tab). More on the Zoometrics suite page.
